Yup, I asked Lar about that, and he seems to think that these veterinary supplements are probably safer than those formulated for humans! lol I have to say I agree with him on this. The "Ultra-Pure Tryptophan" they sell must especially be of good quality.

Going purely by anecdotal reports, research I've done and advice from pharmacists, I believe that a one is much more likely to respond to tryptophan than 5-HTP. Why this is, I have no idea, especially when it's taken into consideration that 5-HTP is only one step away from serotonin, while l-tryptophan is two (i.e. l-tryptophan -> 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) -> serotonin). Could be that 5-HTP doesn't penetrate the blood-brain barrier or penetrate the intraneuronal space as well as tryptophan... who knows. But I'd definitely give tryptophan a try.
