I had a thread on the /eating/ board that was about problems eating healthfully and maintaining weight while in the midst of major depression. In the meanwhile I'm feeling less depressed and have been able to adopt a healthy diet and get out of the depressed-losing anti-depressed-gaining yo-yo cycle.

Any future posts I have about my meal plan, or my progress back to the weight I maintained in college I'll post to /Health/. I understand if the phrases "goal weight" "diet" etc are triggering. It was never my intention to offend, but it looks like I've managed to nonetheless. Perhaps I should have used words like "goal" and "meal plan". I don't know how to say the right thing. I guess I got excited that I was finally on the right path after struggling with depression-related weight loss and medication-related weight gain for over a year now that I wanted to share.

Reading ClearSkies posts, I have been thinking a lot about a book I read "Breaking the Bonds of Food Addiction" by Susan McQuillan. I'm convinced that certain eating habits can set one up for a physiological addiction or at least dependence on food for regulating moods.

Besides posting on /eating/ about these issues, perhaps posters might entertain the idea that food is a substance and talk about addictive behaviors on the substances board.

Maxime raises the question of whether biological approaches (medication) to treat overweight belong on the /eating/ board. I understand that such discussions may be triggering to those who struggle with restricting and purging. There are also people who are overweight and suffer from binge-eating (whether they meet full diagnostic criteria, or merely have symptoms). Now that a drug that is FDA approved for weight-loss is widely available, it is inevitable that babblers are going to want to know more. Where is the appropriate board to talk about these issues? If Alli is part of the treatment for binge-eating or overeating symptoms, couldn't it feasibly be discussed on the /eating/ board (with appropriate warnings to those who may be triggered by discussion of weight-loss aids)? I can also see discussion of Alli on the psycho-babble(meds) board, as overweight is a side effect of many psychopharmacological treatments. This discussion could also take place on the /health/ board. It won't be the same discussion though, and often it would be helpful to get many different viewpoints before making a commitment to something like prescription weight-loss drugs, bariatric surgery, etc.
