With all due respect to others' feelings, I personally do not see a major difference in the site overall despite Dr. Bob's lack of appearances. Sure, the Admin board is different because his absence seems more noticeable here, but the rest of the site seems relatively normal. Of course, the burden falling on the deputies has likely increased, but I don't see how the average Babbler's experience has changed much.
I keep hearing about how "scary" this site is becoming because Dr. Bob is not around. I may be missing something, but I don't see the connection. If there are serious problems, processes are still in place to address them, regardless of Dr. Bob's level of participation. And I think the deputies are doing a damn good job making sure this place doesn't get scary.
I suspect that I may view things differently because I did not develop what I perceive as a "personal" relationship or regular interaction with Dr. Bob. I have always viewed him as the owner of the site and occasional enforcer of the rules, not as a confidante or web friend. I come to Babble because of the other posters here, not to liase with Dr. Bob. Consequently, my view of Babble may be different than others'.
