It might have something to do with having an intense conversation with someone and then realising that the other person is likely to feel hurt / offended. So... One breaks the three post rule in order to apologise / try to straighten things out.

I think maybe he would prefer us to straighten things out ourselves (even if that means posting four posts on occasion) rather than not apologising / setting things right because of the four post rule.

I guess it would be safer not to rely on that, though. Because... It might not be treated as an exception and one could be blocked...
