Hi Dr. Bob & fellow humans,
I'm only 1 week old in babble-land, and I was super-confused when people refer to the 'meds board' On the list of boards, I was looking everywhere for the medications board. It took me a few days to figure it out [I really needed it sooner!]. I also agree with Larry about the [Descartes] dualist issue. 'Biological treatments' suggests that some treatments impact our biology, and others impact our psychology, our relationships, etc. Of course really, our mind is just a byproduct of, and inseparable from, our biological substrates. As such, it's impossible to affect the mind, without causing some change in the body, be it enhanced synaptic transmission, increased dendritic arborization, hormone release etcetera.Another reason for changing the name of this board is that the label sets up an artificial dichotomy between alternative vs. prescription treatments. Chemicals are chemicals to the body, it doesn't matter whether it's from a gigantic vat of petrochemicals, or gently extracted from a beautiful berry.
Thanks for all your work on the psycho-babble project. I have found a lot of relief and support that has made a big difference in this difficult time in my life, even if the meds board was tricky to locate. My poor hippocampus is kind of grumpy right now. Nevertheless, I think that my cognitive impairment is not entirely to blame for my difficulty finding the mysterious 'meds board' :)
