While the article cited may have been *about* borderline personality disorder, I think Gardenergirl did her best to make it clear that she was discussing a specific defense mechanism, NOT the personality disorder itself.
It's kinda ironic that GG posted this today, because I was debating posting something similar myself -- not about any technical matters of psychology, since that's not within my area of competence (let's not lower ourselves to debate of whether I have any areas of competence), but about something that I experienced in real life (although with someone I had met through Babble) that was damaging to me, and that included aspects that I took to be Projective Identification on the part of the other person. This morning's flurry of posts seemed to me to have more than a little in common with that experience.
I'm very glad that Gardenergirl took the time to offer this to us. Thank you, GG. Meanwhile, I don't think my little story would really contribute much to the discussion, so I'll let it pass.
