Spoc, I appreciate the planning, sounds like you've been there too. Plan A won't work. My brother's thing is at 5:30 probably ending at 8:00, but then I have my brother and sister in town who I see once every year or so. No whisking away to Chi Town in this scenario.
As for Plan B, well, it's too damn devious. My wife already shows signs of having illicit internet lover suspicions and the only way I hook up with everyone is by simply telling the truth. I need 6 hours or so to meet people who know to be of like mind and experience. I would regret it if I missed the opportunity. I'm sure we'll find a compromise.
