I actually posted a long and carefully thought out reply to your post last night, but didn't hit submit because I thought Dr. Bob should really answer. I'll try to reconstruct the gist since he didn't.
This subject has come up before. The anonymity of the web is a double edged sword. It helps us feel comfortable disclosing our darkest most dangerous thoughts. But it also makes it difficult for anyone to help us when we do. There are only very limited things that Dr. Bob can do. He doesn't know our names or addresses, and from what I can understand, can only generally estimate our locations. He can figure out our internet service providers, I guess. That's why he tells us to get help in real life in case of an emergency. This board is no substitute for that help.
Often with regular posters, there are other posters who have outside contact with the person in crisis, and they usually do what they can. But even then the amount of information might not really be enough to help. It makes for a lot of frustration when we see someone in very real pain and at risk.
