I try to use a minimum of graphics here for exactly that reason. Have you considered turning it back on before you visit here even if you don't want to keep it on all the time?

Once you've manually loaded it, doesn't it get cached and then displayed on later visits, too?

Maybe, though then it might be interpreted as indicating that whatever it was next to was new, which wouldn't be the case...

I think that would be a nice option, and it's been suggested before, for example, see:

But I couldn't think of a way to do it then. But since I have more experience with "dynamic" web pages now, there might be a way, hmm... But don't hold your breath! :-)
