Catharsis...the danger in it...

I think we have to be responsible when being cathartic. I think the concept is overvalued to begin with. I know as a counsellor, it has a very limited, sometimes harmful role. "Letting it all out" often does *not* solve problems. There has to be some structure, some purpose, some objectivity to what we say. It's like the lone gunman who thinks that going into work and being 'assertive' by putting a gun to his boss's head will somehow make a difference, and now he has the power, and his boss will 'listen'. Of course, it ends up in a suicide and homicide.

As I try to remind myself, and try to practice, 'think before you rant'.
