A number of years ago when I was surfing this new thing called the internet, I stumbled upon a memorial wall for Martin Friedman at MIT.
I had worked at MIT years before, but did not ever know Martin. But I read all of the posts on his wall. It was completely poignant, touching, loving...and I was so pleased to see how his energy reached out to others, so many posts from people like me who just found themselves there. And the expressions of sadness, anguish, the later posts from people whose lives have gone on...folks that have gotten married, had children, and still remembered Martin. The whole thing is pretty phenomenal, in my opinion.
As best I can make out, Marty was bi-polar and committed suicide in his apartment, and his roommate found him. He was about 30.
I thought this might be a tribute worth sharing since we are talking about memorials here.
