Free speech, religion, politics

Posted by Phil on May 26, 2002, at 11:14:09

If I go to a religious board where people post about how God has changed their lives or a Republican board and tell them Lou's story. Stretch it out over several weeks, I guess that would be my right to freedom of speech.
If I tell the religious folks a tale about satan appearing on a black horse, how I'm a better person for it, that's my right.
Would I do it? No.
In this world, the only people we can hope to influence are our family and a close circle of friends. That's the truth.
If I come to this board one day and am lost as a goose as I have been before, and I mention that I'm considering this or that religion or church and would like feedback. I'm sure someone would say, go for it.
But as I said before, if God is not on this board already, without stories, then someone doesn't know how God works.
He works through people just like us, whether we have accepted him or not. The vast majority of posts on this board are to support each other and occasionally, try to get someone through a crises.
That is how God works. My belief is that God supports what he sees here.
It's not who's right or wrong or religious or not. Jesus said to go into a village, tell our story, if they don't buy it, dust off your feet and move on down the road.
Lou, you are putting Jesus' words in the mouth of a guy who you talked to 30 years ago that was wearing a Nazi uniform and riding a white horse.
Just because people here have trouble with that, just my opinion, really bizzare story does not mean we aren't spiritual people in our own right.
It doesn't mean we're anti-religion.
My personal opinion is that you're story is not credible. I think your intentions are honorable and I respect you for that. Just don't ask me to believe your witnessing.
In my 49 years on this planet, I've never heard anything like it and if a friend came up to me with that story to tell, I'd get him to a psychiatrist.
Your story is obviously true to you and that's all that matters. But I'll wager you a $ to a donut that, in reality, it never happened.
Does that make me a bad person for challenging you? In some people's eyes it will.
I guess in the end you still have your rights here but if I were selling something and nobody was buying, I'd move my shop. I'd go where the customer's like my product. I was in retail for 20 years. Your intentions are good, it's your marketing strategy that needs some work.
If the baseball team a lady friend of mine works for started selling hamburgers instead of hotdogs, even if they were good hamburgers, the customers would go nuts. I want hot dogs.

Why does the word block keep going thru my mind?

Nothing personal Lou,

Phil
