Hey, thanks for your post, though I see that Dr. Bob wasn't too fond of it. I am like you, I can't help but put on the "group host" hat and weigh the pros and cons.You certainly can't discount Dr. Bob's motives ("motive" with the non-sinister connotation). He has been pretty blatant that a fundamental aim of this site is to gather research. What may make interesting research, may not make everyone hold hands and sing "We are the World." On the other hand, another fundamental purpose of the site is support. Dr. Bob is going to have to determine where the boundaries for support end, or who's takes precendence. Not a job I envy, and a reason for me to not offer to moderate a support group of any kind soon.
I think that part of the problem also stems from the evolving nature of the site, especially when group members play a part in that evolution. It's a tricky line to walk, on one hand what Dr. Bob says goes (you're blocked, and that's that!) and on the other hand, there are trial periods, member suggestions, and vote counting. Seems to be an inconsistent message, and one that people haven't been able to accept easily (PBA plays small claims court!).
So, while I do think that you may have been unnecessarily painting all OTs with the negative brush, I do understand where you were trying to go with your analysis.
As long as Dr. Bob doesn't start charging co-payments, I'll stick around and see what comes of this.
