Here are the instructions for getting a Yahoo ID without having a Yahoo e-mail address.
Open your browser window and type in the following url:
This will take you to the Yahoo groups main page. If you have been using Yahoo e-mail for accessing Yahoo groups, you must at this point sign out. This is done by clicking on the link near the upper right-hand corner of the page that says Sign Out.
This takes you to a logout page. Now click on the link near the top-center of the page that says Return to Yahoo! Groups. This takes back to the Yahoo groups main page, but now you have to option to register as a new user. Near the top left of the page is a link that says Click here to register, click on that link. That takes you to the registration page.
At the registration page you will be asked to select a Yahoo ID (screen name) and password, some sort of security question (mother’s maiden name, dog’s date of birth, etc.) in case you ever need to contact them directly, and some other stuff. You will also be asked for an alternative e-mail address. This is where you put in the address that YOU want to use for the group access. This can be Hotmail, Excite, AOL, whatever. When you have completed the form, click the button at the bottom of the page that says Submit This Form.
Now, here’s the REALLY important part. Yahoo will send you two e-mails to the address that you registered under, one welcoming you to Yahoo groups and one asking you to verify the e-mail address that you’ve selected for registration. All you have to do to verify is open the e-mail and click the reply button. You don’t have to type anything. Now you can join any group with the e-mail that you chose. If it’s an open membership, you can join right away. If it’s restricted membership, you’ll have to wait for the moderator of the group to approve you.
Sorry it took so long to get this done. But better late than never, right?
