Conflict, ego, experience, and co-dependence

Posted by triedit on August 26, 2001, at 11:02:43

Ok I have an ego as big as (most) of the rest of you, so here is my opinion.

The conflicts on this board stem from these factor:

1. differing experiences, treatments, and diseases
2. the need to help someone because it
A. Makes us feel needed
B. Makes us feel a little less 'stoopid'
C. Lets us give something back for all we have recieved.
3. Co-dependence, sourced as in number two, but complicated by the powerlessness of our own dysfunction and the types of families we probably had since Depressive Diseases are thought to be genetic.
4. Ego. Some of which is natural for all people, and some of which is chemically induced as a symptom of bipolar disorder. Personally I believe that there is also something I call 'anti-mania'. For me that is the forced mania-like response to depression--ie, I feel bad so I go spend money I don't have; or I need comfort so I go sleep with ten different people. But I digress...

So basically what Im trying to say is this:

Conflict among those who suffer from psychiatric conditions is part of the norm, as is the need for people to help/teach/correct/direct.

It will come and go, it may help and it may not, and it simply 'is'.

When we try to help/teach/correct/direct the conflict, what are we truly doing and what are we truly accomplishing?

And at the risk of ripping the scab off an old, painful discussion...there is a twelve-step group for co-dependence *snicker*
