Hi Jay,
My background is not in biology. There are some things you can tell (pretty easily) from your raw data. Other things are (obviously) much more complicated.
Basically the raw data just contains a list of SNPs like the one listed below:
rs324420 CC
The two letters that follow (CC) in this case tell you what variant you have of that particular SNP. In some cases, a single SNP is predictive of the activity of a particular trait (FAAH activity in this case). In other cases, you need to look at multiple SNPs to determine a trait (more complicated). So, looking at my raw data, I have been able to determine the following:
- high FAAH (low endocannabinoids)
- high COMT (lower dopamine)
- error in folate metabolism (only 10% of the population has this bad variant)
- error in biotin recycling (I have a partial biotindase deficiency).Nevertheless, it hasn't been all that useful in guiding treatment :)
