Thank you for your responses.
The reason I was wondering about l-theanine is because:
(A) on the one hand, I read that l-theanine increases serotonin, so I am worried about possible serotonin syndrome;
(B) on the other hand, I find that taking l-theanine before bed helps me wake up feeling more rested.
Venlafaxine increases my need for sleep; I reckon that I need about two hours more sleep per night in order to wake up feeling rested. This, I suspect, is because it alters my sleep architecture, resulting in less deep sleep. L-theanine, I believe, promotes deep sleep. So I find that taking l-theanine before bed partly ameliorates the increased sleep requirement caused by the venlafaxine.
But I'm also concerned about serotonin syndrome.
