In my experience, Zyprexa (olanzapine) worked almost instantly to put the fire out. I was not hypomanic, though. I was beyond that. I was delusional. Because most people gain weight on Zyprexa, it is not an ideal answer if you need to cover a period of time longer than a few weeks. I have a *hunch* that Zyprexa works quickly and completely enough to be able to use it for 5-7 days, and then be able to discontinue it without hypomania reemerging.In the days before olanzapine, doctors often combined lithium with a benzodiazepine, usually clonazepam.
