Some people, especially those with ADHD, get a calming effect from amphetamines. I've experienced this once, with phenylethylamine (PEA). I could have fallen asleep had I wanted to, but I watched the TV news, and I was amazingly good at remembering what I had seen and heard, even the weather forecast!
