For the record, SAMe stands for S-Adenosyl Methionine. Because it's "Methionine" and not "M-ethionine", the term "SAM-e" is erroneous.
The idea behind using it is to elevate the levels of certain neurotransmitters. It seems particularly potent in increasing dopamine:
