mg for mg, escitalopram is a much more potent inhibitor of serotonin than venlafaxine.
There are some cases of generics not working as well as brand name. One generic bupropion SR was taken off the market for not being 'bioequivalaent' to brand name.
That being said, I can't explain why venlafaxine routinely gives me high blood pressure / pulse where escitalopram does not. Venlafaxine also improves my attention where escitalopram makes it worse. On paper that shouldn't happen. However, there are likely additional targets that we don't know about yet.
