In many areas Luvox isn't approved for depression. I think Japan is one of the outliers. It's main use is OCD. I think it is a good med and underutilized. In many cases, doctors prescribe the 'safest' meds - the ones least likely to rock the boat. They are not necessarily prescribing the most effective ones. If efficacy was the primary goal, then MAOIs might be a first line option. However, as the drug companies have been marketing antidepressants for more and more trivial matters (i.e. according to the Trintillex commercial, depression is all about spending too much time in sweatpants) they need something that is benign enough - side effect wise - to be given to the masses. God help you, if you have something wrong other than serotonin. Good luck!
