i certainly hope not. benzodiazepines aren't ideal, but...they're better than many alternatives, especially for as needed use.
as best i can tell around here...there's a lot of variability, from doctor to doctor, from clinic to clinic. some are opposed to benzodiazepines, as a rule. i can see why...tapers can be rough. others are OK, but increasingly xanax is a no go...its lorazepam or clonazepam, all the way.
so...i dunno. i think it also depends on the region of the country you're in...where i live, the family docs are generally anti-benzo, the psychiatrists are OK with it (private practice shrinks). wish i could offer some real, solid answers. :-(
