Buspirone dosing schedule

Posted by Confusedcius on April 24, 2019, at 9:50:22

I find the dosing schedule for buspirone to be confusing. It says initially 15mg/day and then increase by 5mg/day every 2-3 days. However, it takes 2-4 weeks for the drug to have an effect. Is the 2-4 weeks only for when the drug is initially taken and then after that, one can have an effect in as little as 2 days of a dose increase?

Example:
15mg/day for 2-4 weeks
then 5 mg/day dose increases can elicit a response in 2-3 days.

Or is the 2-3 day rule only for increasing the dosage but not to assess a response?

In that case:
15mg/day for 2-4 weeks
increase every 2-3 days by 5mg
Upon reaching 30mg/day, wait another 2-4 weeks for a response.

A third example would be following the dosing info to a T and increasing by 5mg/day every 2-3 days off the bat:

15mg/day, increase every 2-3 days, max 60mg/day.
(here we do not require to stay at a given dose for 2-4 weeks)
