Seeing as you were a long term client, there would be quite a bit of invested emotion, and it may just be a gesture of his inability to help you in the future (i.e. send you on your way with all he could).

Hi, what I want is for him to continue therapy with me. He said therapy is not the problem, its the cost of a practice, office, expenses, insurance difficulties, etc. So, why couldn't he just continue with me?
