i think low dose adderall and various doses of ritalin can be helpful for a lot people w/o the problems one sees with antidepressants. i dont know much about provigil or nuvigil, but some people swear by the stuff.
if you can taper off tranquilizers/antipsychotics, id say do it. they carry very serious risks, after all...and new(er) ones are very expensive.
some people do well on a neuroleptic+stimulant. its an old school remedy, there used to be combo pills with antipsychotics and uppers in one capsule. the "goof balls" are no longer around in 1 convenient pill, but the same sorts of drugs are combined to get symptom control for some people.
my only real advice would be to be very slow and cautious about tapering anything, especially benzodiazepines and the antipsychotics. with the neuroleptics...the new ones cover a lot of territory in the brain, so its a good idea to go slowly, give your brain and whole body some time to reset.
