My impression of metformin and weight loss is that although some users do lose a lot of weight, most do not. A small reduction is definitely more common. To be fair, it's very variable. On average, users lose a few kg after being on it for many months, maybe about 4. Metformin is an excellent choice for diabetes in ppl who are also overweight.
At the moment, I know quite a lot of people on metformin for type 2 DM, including three close friends...
One is on 2000mg per day, and has lost quite a bit of weight.
One is on 2500mg per day and is still morbidly obese with no weight loss.
One is on 3000mg per day and is also still very large with no weight loss.
One gets mild diarrhoea, the others don't.
