I have a friend who is Type 1 diabetic, with poorly regulated blood sugar. Recently he had hyperglycemia (_high_ blood sugar) for several days and became very sick. He had a short manic episode which quickly flipped to acute depression. His blood sugar is back in balance but he is very depressed. He is on no other prescribed meds beside insulin, but does take Ritalin & methamphetamine at times.
Wikipedia suggests that SSRIs can interact with diabetes, but a quick scan indicates the effects are complex. Does anyone have experience with this? Mood stabilizers?
He is shy of seeing doctors, and avoids Rx meds, but I think he really needs medical help. Any suugestions, especially from those with experience of Type 1 diabetes?
