Absolutely! This is a fact as far as I am concerned.
And it has a very comprehensive detailed scientific explanation as to why that happens.
The phenomenon even has a name. It is called a Herxheimer reaction. Unfortunately, most scientists and psychiatrist don't really know what that is or how it ties into their patients.
These studies are misleading.
1. They suggest you should avoid antibiotics if you are prone to depression - where in fact it is the need for antibiotics to end being prone to depression.
2. They seem to have no knowledge whatsoever of the direct and spectacular link between infections and mood, and no education whatsoever of what a Herxheimer is. Without any of that, these studies send the reader off into la-la land of myths and false extrapolations.
3. They totally avoid making the obvious link - if you take antibiotics and you get depressed that IS DIAGNOSTIC For LYME. That is actually one of the better screening tests out there. It is a common validating tactic, or confirmation tactic. If a doctor suspects lyme but the tests are negative, one course of antibiotics is all it requires to rule in or rule out the suspicion, based upon what happens. It's all quite fascinating when you know in detail what is actually h happening behind the curtains. But it is also terrifying to realize that the professionals we rely on and trust to know this stuff, well, most of them don't. That is scary.
imo
