hi. what would you want these drugs for? wellbutrin is a stimulating drug used for smoking cessation and some forms of depression. abilify is a newer tranquilizer that has improved tolerability over, say, Haldol or Thorazine.
if you need a drug for depression or to stop smoking, then wellbutrin might be OK. it has its own set of adverse effects, but i did find it easier to tolerate and easier to stop than ssri or ssnri drugs.
if you need a tranquilizer for psychosis or severe mood problems, abilify might be an acceptable option. it causes less weight gain than many 'atypicals,' and it may cause less tardive dyskinesia than -some- other options, but even that advantage might not be as great as once thought/assumed.
memantine is a neurology drug, for alzheimer's. any use in psychiatry is off label and somewhat experimental.
be very careful with drugs, including prescription psych drugs. altering brain chemistry can cause problems, and that's not even factoring in all the other things that can go wrong (akathisia, drug induced depression, mania, psychosis, dependence, tardive dyskinesia, weight gain, diabetes, tardive dysphoria, tardive psychosis).
if you have severe problems that respond to available psych drugs, try to work with a prescriber to get on a drug (or drugs) that help improve your quality of life w/o causing too many problems.
