Amitriptyline rechallenge

Posted by linkadge on August 15, 2017, at 22:06:29

So, after a few nights of good sleep, I tried amitriptyline again to see if it was the offending agent (causing insomnia vs. helping it).

I took 2.5mg

Within 30 min of taking it, I am much wider awake. I feel like I just drank an espresso. My heart is beating faster. I almost feel like I am going to have a seizure.

This is very strange, since in the past it had the exact opposite effect.

I literally have to take extra lorazepam to fight off the effect.

It's funny, I was taking nortriptyline just before the amitriptyline. Nortriptyline was causing less activation than amitriptyline!

Anyone who thinks these sedating drugs (i.e. amitriptyline, Seroquel, mirtazapine, trazodone) are more or less equivalent antihistamines in low doses is wrong.
