I didn't know that the alpha-blockers were capable of treating MAOI urinary retention. Good to know. Smart doctor.
Good luck with higher dosages of Nardil.

> 7 weeks was far too long between appts. But I should have contacted my Psych about the urine retention. I saw him today. Upped my dose (officially) to 60mg. Soon as I told him about the urine retention he told me there's an antidote for it and prescribed me DOXAZOSIN. An alpha-blocker for high blood pressure and also symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland in men.
> In the case of urine retention it relaxes the muscle around the bladder exit & prostate gland so urine is passed more easily.
> For the past 5 days I used my remaining phenelzine pills to increase to 60mg. Urine retention came back badly. After 2 days I returned dose to 45mg for 24hrs & was able to rid my bladder of the excess. I then returned back to 60mg and was experiencing 'bearable' pain when I turned up for my appt today.

> My doc called the hospital pharmacy and a pharmacy assistant rushed over to his clinic with a pack of Doxazosin. I was given 2mg on an empty gut and within 30mins I went to the bathroom and, well you know.
