Hi Nickie.
How are you feeling?
I hope the desipramine is agreeing with you.
If you find that desipramine is partially helpful, but persistenly feels "harsh" or does not help with anhedonia, you can then explore nortriptyline. This was my experience. Some people who fail to respond to one drug go on to respond to the other. I do significantly better on nortriptyline than on desipramine. Desipramine is not an inferior drug, though. It is just different. Some doctors still use desipramine to treat depression and ADHD.
I had a surprisingly good antidepressant response to a combination of nortriptyline 75 mg/day and Effexor 300 mg/day. Unfortunately, I did not think that I needed a higher dosage, even though my response to it was only partial. I did not ask my doctor to raise it. The correct dosage of nortriptyline for me is 150 mg/day, which was determined clinically and by using blood tests. If for some reason I must abandon Parnate, I would replace it with Effexor.
