Levaquin restored sexual functioning

Posted by Iansf on May 19, 2016, at 14:14:36

Like many men taking fluoxetine, both my libido and sexual functioning have been reduced dramatically. Two weeks ago my doctor (inappropriately, as it turns out) prescribed levofloxazin for a serious case of diarrhea. Within a few days, my sexual functioning improved significantly. When I stopped taking it, the benefits faded away. I can't see any reason for the improvement other than the medication. That said, I don't recommend you try levofloxazin. Other side effects were very troubling, and I've subsequently discovered that many people's lives have been severely damaged from the after effects of fluoroquinolones, the class of drugs to which levofloxazin belongs. In fact just this month the FDA issued an (overdue) advisory to use fluoroquinolones only in cases where no other antibiotic will work. What I would like to see, however, is a scientific investigation into the possibility of finding a metabolite or whatever of these drugs that counters the negative sexual effects of SSRIs. Or perhaps some very low dose use of the drugs that does not trigger the negative side effects.
