My former pdoc said that low doses of Abilify are more stimulating, higher doses more tranquilizing (her word: soothing. No joke). Makes sense, based on my own experiences. I take a whopping 30mgs/day in the AM. No noticeable sedation, no noticeable (to me) stimulation. However, if I don't take it by 1ish, I get insomnia. Abilify is a kinda strange drug.
If you can do without a neuroleptic, you probably should. I say this as someone who is on Abilify for the long haul. Its clean-ish, its tolerable, its great...if you need a neuroleptic. If you can find something else, please do. Many of the alternatives are cheaper, have more data behind them, and are safer in many respects.Have you ever added Wellbutrin? I imagine you could keep the Abilify and add some form of Wellbutrin, if you don't mind a lil cocktail. Or drop the Abilify and then add Wellbutrin...I dunno, lol. It can help some people w/ the sexual se from ssri drugs. To me (I take wellbutrin sr), its sort of like...well, sort of like a very mild stimulant with some mood elevating properties. I find it far less dulling and apathy-inducing than many alternatives.
Hmmm....BuSpar sometimes helps people, Provigil and the older stimulants, Remeron. Have you ever tried Lamictal?
