There are about a dozen articles on Medline regarding amineptine and liver toxicity. It seems that in most cases, if caught early enough, liver function returns to normal quickly after discontinuation.

Wikipedia reports that the two major reasons for the withdrawal of amineptine in France were abuse potential and liver toxicity.
