Lemon balm. Short term, as needed.
The best in the world is Rhodiola Rosea. Longterm. While it is primarily known as anti-fatigue, pro-brain, and stimulant, it is a very good antidepressant and amazing anti-anxiety. But it doesn't do the anti-anxiety in a way meds do. Feels very natural.
The only drawback is that it has stimulant-like side effects in the first few days or couple weeks and that is when most people ditch it, not realizing they should instead lower the dose to a tolerable level so as to buy the needed time. It takes 6-12 weeks to really do its magic. It is not like benzos but works better than them after it kicks in.
To get those custom doses you can tolerate requires emptying capsules to make your own custom doses. For example, a capsule on a plate divided into 4 equal sized piles is easy to do and easy to dose....it tastes good, sort of like roses, so you can just sprinkle the powder on whatever food. Or load gel caps. Whatever. The point is....you need to wait weeks for the true benefit....but you might have to use custom doses to get that far. And then you will be happy as heck you did.
Rhodiola has worked like magic on everybody I have suggested it to, except for the ones who did not follow the advice of custom doses. They are still sick.
There are other herbs also. But the two above are star performers and it makes sense to start there.
