I think Buprenorphine can be used successfully to treat depression. Buprenorphine is the strongest kappa-receptor antagonist currently available for human use, although it is also a partial agonist at the mu receptor, and the relative importance of the activity at these sites is currently unknown.
Opiates, like endorphins create a sense of well-being and euphoria. The success of exercise in treating some forms of depression highlites the opiate systems role in the genesis of depression, I think.
