I used to take 400 mg of Wellbutrin SR well before the onset of my psychosis. I started taking it as monotherapy before the psychiatrist I was seeing at the time added lithium carbonate into the mix. I don't recall noticing any apathy that I could attribute to the Wellbutrin, although I didn't find it to be particularly effective at treating my anergic depression (even with lithium, though the addition of lithium did seem to help some) either. I tend to respond to medications in unusual ways, though, so my experience with Wellbutrin probably isn't representative of what a typical experience with the medication is like. I do think you're right, though, that Wellbutrin doesn't have a reputation as being apathy-inducing.
I wish you luck with the higher dose.
