It really doesn't too much about listening. Let's be honest, we go to them to prescribe meds. There are a dozen people we could go to, if we just wanted to talk.
They just need to fit us into one of 3 boxes.
1) In need of an antidepressant
2) In need of a mood stabilizer
3) In need of an antipsychoticThat's really it. Sure, some psychiatrists think there is an art to the "selection" of one drug over an other, based on symptoms, but there is very little scientific evidence to support that.
If you're angry about the doctor prescribing nardil and then an antipsychotic. Then stop taking them. Sure, you'll go through rebound, but in a few months (or a year) you'll be back to whatever your baseline was. At that point, you can make a decision as to whether you want to go the psychiatry route again.
