That's a difficult question to answer. Even if HNK (hydroxynorketamine) does not act directly on DA neurons, it may lead to an increase in DA activity secondarily downstream. I don't really know.

I'll have to review the properties this drug possesses. The recent animal data, indicates that administration of HNK should be sufficient.

Apparently, HNK is not yet in clinical trials. One would have to rely on animal data indicating antidepressant activity.

Check out the action of HNK to reduce D-serine in degenerative disorders like Alzheimers and Parkinsons.
