Probably similar. Lexapro may be slightly less likely to cause an initial worsening of anxiety than Zoloft, but this can happen with any SSRI in people who are not used to them. Lexapro is also less likely to cause an upset stomach/diarrhea. On the other hand, Lexapro has a reputation for being slightly more emotionally 'numbing' than Zoloft, but I don't know if this is really based on anything.

In people with bipolar disorder, SSRIs often cause agitation, so care is needed.
