When it comes to psychotropic drugs and their clinical effects, there is going to be some variability in the way different individuals react to them. I guess it is possible that you would find 5 mg/day of Abilify effective, but the majority of people need a minimum of 10 mg/day. Abilify is not the most potent drug against the positive symptoms of schizoid disorders. In fact, it might actually work against other antpsychotics like Seroquel. I saw one person's dosage requirement of Seroquel go from 400 mg/day to 900 mg/day when Abilify was added. It returned to 400 mg/day once Abilify was discontinued. Abilify added very little, if any, improvement in her schizoaffective disorder. They later responded to a combination of Navane and Saphris. Unfortunately, her sex drive has disappeared.
I don't think that reduced sex drive is very common with Abilify, although it is reported. Some people become hypersexual with Abilify. Perhaps this population is predominantly bipolar. If you are experiencing a loss of sex drive with Abilify at 10 mg/day, I'm not sure that this side effect would disappear at 5 mg/day.
