Hi everyone,
I posted a few days ago about wanting to switch from Seroquel to another psych drug to lose weight. I saw my pdoc on Monday and we decided to try Ziprasidone (Zeldox/Geodon). To start and see if I could tolerate it, he put me on 20 mg once a day, with food. (In his practice, he has found that once a day is sufficient.)
I've taken the 20 mg three days now, at dinner time (around 6 or 7 pm). So far the side effects seem minimal. If anything, it makes me feel more mellow and relaxed. No anxiety or restlessness. No drowsiness either.
The only problem is that the past few days, I've had bad sleep. From not falling asleep as easily, to waking up multiple times per night, to waking up early and not being able to get back to sleep. It almost seems as if the Seroquel I take at bedtime isn't knocking me out like it used to. (I'm still on the same dosage of Seroquel while we taper up the Ziprasidone.) On the other hand, I definitely feel SLEEPY through the day and around bedtime. :(
I don't know whether the bad sleep is just a coincidence - I was under a lot of stress making the decision - or whether it's a Ziprasidone side effect. I am considering taking my 20 mg dose with lunch instead of dinner, to see if that mitigates the sleep problems. But I know this stuff is sedating for many people, especially as the dose gets higher, so I worry that if I started taking it all at lunchtime, the jump to 40 mg will really screw me up if it produces drowsiness. My doctor's goal is eventually 60-80 mg per day.
What do you guys think?
