Psychiatry goes in patterns. New drugs come out, old drugs are discarded, new drugs turn into nightmares.
OK. So the old antipsychotics were good until the lawsuits of the 70s and 80s got shrinks in trouble for Rxing them for everything. Then the atypicals came out and the old drugs were officially bad, but the new drugs were good for everything imaginable.
Now, there are some serious TD lawsuits being filed. My best guess? As soon as the latest antipsychotics go off patent and all these lawsuits start going through, we'll see some new wonder drugs developed for milder disorders, a brief period of more careful prescribing for more severe conditions, and...
...and then we'll have new wonder drugs.
