My doctor, in a last ditch to get my depression under control told me that she has had some patients respond to Naltrexone. She however is unclear about the science behind it as there is not much in terms of clinical studies to go by. I've done some researching online but all I can find is information about Low dose Naltrexone but nothing on 50mg for depression. I've read about it been used for alcohol and opiate dependency (none of which I have) at this dosage. My husband called her concerned about the 50mg and she agreed to call in a low dose at a compounding pharmacy yet insisted that some of her patients had responded to the full 50mg. I've been taking the low dose for a week and have seen no change. I wonder if I should try the full 50mg. I'm so afraid of this dosage since from what I can gather it works by blocking the body's response to endorphins. Has anyone in this forum tried Naltrexone either at full dose or low dose? What was your experience? Does anyone know anything about this type of treatment? Thanks in advance.
