In reply to Wellbutrin Obscuring Clomipramine Response?, posted by MuseMemento on July 12, 2014, at 13:18:16
First off, OCD = low serotonin in certain parts of the brain and high dopamine in other regions of the brain. Wellbutrin increases dopamine in the brain which should theoretically worsen OCD-I can't account for Wellbutrin improving OCD symptoms (what else were you taking at the time?). Antidepressants raise levels of serotonin in the brain (of course) which is why they are used to treat OCD. Ideally you want too be taking a drug that raises serotonin - an SSRI, SNRI, Clomipramine or Mirtazapine - plus a drug that lowers dopamine - an atypical antipsychotic.
As for your OCD improving on lamictal-well that's because lamictal is a glutamate antagonist and they have been shown to improve OCD symptoms.
