Ive been on about all of them except the older, typical anti-psychotics.
Of the ones Ive been on, only a small number did not seem to cause weight gain in myself. Among those that did not cause me weight gain include the following:
1) MAOI Parnate (none)
2) Wellbutrin (none)
3) Prozac, tried it once years ago and did not notice any weight gain
4) Zoloft...been on it for years and I never noticed any weight gain from the drug itself (none)5) Ritalin (none)
6) klonopin (none)
Adjunctive depression treatments that are not psych meds that have helped with mood and fatigue but did not cause weight gain:1) CPAP therapy (no weight gain, made it easier to lose weight and helps keep weight off)
2) testosterone cypionate injections, gained a little muscle but not fat
3) rTMS (none)
Most other psych meds Ive been on caused me weight gain, I think its very important for psych meds to not cause weight gain. Why? Because most psych meds do not work that great for many people and many people end up trying multiple meds over a protracted period of time. By the time they finally find something that works (maybe?), they've gained at least twenty pounds of nasty fat, probably a lot more. And that extra fat youve gained can cause you to develop things like obstructive sleep apnea and type II diabetes, illnesses that in themselves can cause severe fatigue and depressed mood and reinforce the "refractory" part of treatment resistant depression.
