Mine was my sister's death but I think once the brain gets a jolt of a trauma like that can make you more suseptible with the a resultant neurochemical response. Not sure, just my opinion, along with genetic factors in my mother's family that have come to light over the years.

> StargazerHi, I'm sorry to hear you have dealt with this for so long. I have been depressed since I was around 8. I'm not sure what caused the depression for me to be honest. Depression and anxiety have run in my family for a few generations, so I'm sure it's genetic. I just moved back to California from Texas and I have noticed that I have been much less suicidal since moving back to California. If you live in a state like Texas with really bad weather, I would suggest moving to a state that gets lots of sunshine and has a good, stable climate. That may not be possible for you, but it definitely helps. The worst part of my depression is the insomnia. Have you felt anything that helps you with insomnia? Talk to you soon.
