Switched to Tegretol XR...

Posted by Sheilac on March 8, 2014, at 16:05:38

Turns out, I had an allergic reaction to trileptal. I swelled up so bad I was in severe pain. It was terrible. When I went to a higher dose 900mg of Trileptal I felt like I couldn't breath, even after using my asthma meds several times.

My pdoc immediately took me off Trileptal and is having me try Tegretol XR 400mg. I've been on it 5 days and so far so good. No swelling, which is odd because it's supposed to be just like Trileptal.

Do I HAVE to take it with a meal? Within 2 hours of dinner I have to go to bed. I sleep like a rock though. I'm wondering if I can take it without food.

Will the sleepiness wear off? I usually never have caffeine during the day and I've had to resort to caffeine and naps.

My doc mentioned adding low dose Wellbutrin SR, but I'm kind of afraid to do that. In the past Wellbutrin has made me manic.
Unless I go back to low dose Geodon for energy.

I'm not taking anything else. No Geodon, no Klonopin. All's good with Tegretol.

Do I try Wellbutrin for the sleepiness? I don't feel depressed, just a little blah from the Tegretol. I like the dose though. It's working.
